Why #5

5) Use it as a vehicle to launch other artist-aiding projects.

A nexus from which to expand into events like the Lexi-Fest Concert Series (we've organized dozens of these shows in Lexington, Georgetown, Richmond, Frankfort, and more since we kicked this series off, and raised money for non-profits like Greenhouse 17 and others) and other ways to provide performance opportunities and revenue streams for artists; drive music fans to live shows at all the area venues; more work for sound techs; and the like.

I first threw this idea to the public following the first awards show in this post.

Since that time, we've done shows all over the Central KY area, usually a multi-genre, multi-artist events like the Lexi-Fest Festival at Proud Mary BBQ each Labor Day weekend, or themed events (like our Rock-n-Rap 2 show at Al's or our first Rock-n-Rap show at Cosmic Charlies, or our Country Theme show at Austin City Saloon or our Prince Tribute show at The Burl last year).

In the process, we've raised money for a variety of charities and non-profits, including donating all of the proceeds from the Prince show to the West Jessamine HS Band.

In future, we hope to make the smaller Lexi-Fest shows artist run (independently organized following only a handful of guidelines in order to use the Lexi-Fest brand) with money going either to performers or charity.....and expand the Labor Day show to 4 or 5 annual event across the state.

The larger shows we also use as a way to partner with university music programs (like EKU's student MIO) to provide hands-on experience and, following that, budget for their own projects.
