WRAP-UP: Lexi-Fest/Awards/More

Wow. Just wow. I am thrilled beyond measure how everyone stepped up to the plate, went above & beyond the call of duty, and the amazing turnout and vibe we had at the show. 2016 Lexi-Fest Festival was a raging success. Full house, no cancellations, almost stayed on scheduule (haha!), and raised a small chunk of change so we can add some up-grades to the 2017 Lexington Music Awards. I’ll up-date with an exact number soon.
MASSIVE thanx to Thompson Law Office and The Botany Bay for helping make my little vision and huge reality. More to the point, I want to thank my friends Eddy Thompson and Ginny Saville for believing this thing could fly. And then giving it wings.

Full story at LEXGO!

Lexi-Fest

2 p.m. Sept. 4 at Proud Mary BBQ, 9079 Old Richmond Rd. $10. 859-913-5611.
It’s called Lexi-Fest, a series of concert events begun in 2015 that have been designed to showcase as much of the stylistic range of the Lexington music community that can be squeezed into one bill in one day. The Lexington Music Awards, held early in the new year, figure into Lexi-Fest, too. The performances are a promotional device for the awards while encouraging networking for local artists and potential music industry contacts.
Mostly, though, Lexi-Fest is about music — lots of it. The series’ latest performance will be Sunday at Proud Mary BBQ and sports veterans and newcomers representing rock, pop, jazz, R&B, hip hop, folk, Americana, country and more.
A partial list of participating artists include the McLain Family Band, the Osland/Dailey JazztetAlan RobinsonDevine Carama,SoljamBeth DeanTaylor C. HughesRhyan Elizabeth Sinclairand many others. “Mighty” Max Corona from WBVX-FM 92.1 will be the emcee.

From the FB page:

SURVEY SAYS...... I've had a LOT of suggestions scattered thru various posts here, emails, pms, texts, etc on WHAT NEW CATEGORIES we should have for the awards. So a question:

If you could only add ONE new award (it can be music style, instrument, industry award...whatever), what would it be???

Awards Changes

From June 1 FB group post:

BIG CHANGES.....in keeping things moving forward and trying to improve, we're initiating several changes in the awards process (and in the Lexi-Fest series).

1) We're adding a "panel of experts" to ADD (not replace) to the nominees. Nominations will still be done by public vote, but a small and rotating list of industry folk (media, retail, musicians, etc) will add a "wild card" nominee to every category.

2) We're adding a few categories....including "album of the year" and "critics choice award" (this voted on by the aforementioned panel). Maybe more, if feasible.

3) I may trim back the Lexi-Fest gigs (or turning all but one or two over to others to organize and host). We'll have official criteria for everyone if YOU want to host a Lexi-Fest show.

Thoughts? Ideas? Opinions (pro or con)?

Let's discuss it!

====

From a later post, 2 relevant points:

4) Other changes in the awards we've discussed....like "Best Album" category, an expert panel made up of a handful of industry folks (like some of last year's winners, which will disqualify them for 2017 awards, and others) to add a "wild card" entry in each category and possibly vote for a "critics choice award".
Said panel will change EACH YEAR.
5) It is likely we'll start the voting EARLY this year, with much more time for everyone to get the word out to other musicians, music fans, family/friends, and the like. Personally, I'd like to see 5000 votes this year in the nomination process.

Lexi-Fest Series and Festival

As with last year, we've knocked out a variety of Lexi-Fest shows this year at venues around the area....from O'Neil's to Al's Bar to Common Grounds to Willis Music and more. The series culminates with the Lexi-Fest Festival, Sunday September 4 (Labor Day Weekend) at Proud Mary's.
